Understanding the personality types of other people helps us:
- Recognise their drivers and motivations
- Interact with them
- Manage them
- Compare and contrast personality traits
- Recognise differences
Life, like work, is a people game, and a contact sport. Learning to understand what other people are like, and why, helps us better interact, impact, manage, be managed, build relationships and generally get the most out of our people interactions. This does not mean trying to change who we are; it is about better understanding others so that our interactions, whether at work, in relationships, friendships, or groups is more meaningful, less transactional and with greater clarity. For example when we realise how different we are from a friend, or work colleague then we can better understand and manage these areas of difference, identify areas of potential conflict, and so gain a mutual understanding of how we can draw on those differences to make the relationship stronger or more productive.
